WISDOM TEETH REMOVAL/IMPACTIONS
 
 
  PROBLEMS WITH WISDOM TEETH
  • A flap of gum tissue to grows over them leading to food lodgement and gum infection
  • Eruption in the wrong direction
  • If there is not enough space in the jaw for the wisdom teeth, they may become impacted.
  • Trouble while cleaning around wisdom teeth as they are far in the back of your mouth
  •   SYMPTOMS
    Wisdom teeth often show no symptoms. Symptoms that indicate that your wisdom teeth need to be removed include:
  • Pain or jaw stiffness in relation to an impacted tooth.
  • Pain or irritation because of a tooth coming at an awkward angle.
  • Swelling and infection in the flap of gum tissue.
  • Crowding of other teeth.
  • Tooth decay or gum disease.
  •   POST SURGERY INSTRUCTIONS:
  • The following tips will help you in a speedy recovery.
  • Take painkillers according to your dentist’s prescription.
  • gently bite on the gauze pad for 30-45 minutes post your surgery.
  • If bleeding does not stop after 24 hours of your surgery, call your dentist or oral surgeon for help.
  • Do not to bite the inside of your cheek, lip or tongue when your mouth is numb
  • lying flat may prolong bleeding so prop rop up your head with pillows.
  • use an ice pack on the outside of your cheek for the first 24 hours and use moist heat and saline water rinses for the following 2 or 3 days.
  • Avoid physical activity as it may increase bleeding.
  • Eat soft foods initially and gradually add solid foods to your diet as the healing progresses.
  • Avoid using a straw for the first few days as it can loosen the blood clot and delay healing.
  • Avoid smoking for at least 24 hours post your surgery as it decreases the blood supply and brings germs and contaminants to the surgery area.
  • Do not rub or touch the area with your tongue or fingers.
